About the product
Fully Patented
It can be added to materials such as commodity plastics, leather, vinyl, paints, latex, and fabrics. The material is incorporated directly into these substances rendering them capable of self-sanitization against viruses and bacteria. These antimicrobial properties remain inherent to these treated materials for the lifespan of the product, without any reduction in efficacy or risk of leaching. This product is different from alternative technologies in that it is a metal-free, organic chemistry and therefore eliminates a significant amount of risk associated with end of lifecycle considerations towards public health and environmental wellbeing. Although it can be used in coatings, the material should not be considered a coating or topical treatment, meaning instead the antimicrobial nature of products derived from this technology have antimicrobial performance that extends from the surface through to the bulk meaning the properties cannot be washed or abraded away. With treated products continually sanitizing themselves from build-up of bacteria and viruses, augmented cleaning regimens can be limited to mild cleaners, such as soap and water, and can limit the need for harsh, caustic, or halogenated cleaners.

It can easily be adapted for use in plastic medical devices as well as gowns, facemasks, bedlinen, plastic bins, commercial seating, car interiors, etc. It also provides the opportunity to be used in a host of products for touch surfaces that could be incorporated at areas of high public trafficking such as public transport (buses, trains planes) airports, stadia, public buildings, hospitals and even places of work. We also believe it could be used on food coverings to limit the possibility of bacteria contact on fresh products (possibly extending sell by dates) and could also be used in potential alternative plastic products with supermarkets in their drive to eliminate plastic waste.

Cannot be washed, peeled or abraded away
As the material is compounded and dissolved directly into the bulk materials used in end-use products during the manufacturing process, this means the antimicrobial properties we offer become inherent to the material meaning they cannot be washed, peeled or abraded away. Additionally, due to the physical size of the molecular architecture of our technology, we can safely avoid essentially any chance of leaching events, a considerable problem for competing technologies, which could lead to unintended dosing and exposure to humans and the environment.

Reduction of Viruses and Bacteria
High Performance
The antimicrobial performance, in end use materials, is related to the concentration of additive incorporated, however in most applications we will target 99.9% reduction of viruses and bacteria within application specific timescales. Materials we have had had success with so far include upholstery vinyl, leather, latex and water-based paints, latex resins, non-woven fabrics (examples as used in KN95, disposable surgical masks and air filters), linen and commodity plastics.

Another major global concern this would assist in addressing would the ever-increasing rise of superbugs brought about by the continuous use of antibiotics and the inevitable risk this poses with drug resistant viruses and bacteria. It is well documented that this could become the world’s largest health issue unless additional countermeasures are developed. Self-sanitizing products, like those we intend to create, could dramatically reduce conditions that lead to help virus containment or secondary infection spread and as such antibiotic over-prescription. This in turn will reduce patients’ hospital stays and allow a for a more structured planning regime to be help deal with the enormous backlog of operations brought about by things like the Covid-19 crisis.
